Hello I'm trying to figure out where my Tbird might be leaking oil from. I stumped. It's leaking alot and I'm trying to figure it out so I can start driving again. It doesn't leak while idling only when I drive it. I cleaned everything up and figured out the area its coming from but can't seem to figure out exactly the spot because oil get all over. It's coming from above the oil filter. Anyone here might have an idea? I check all the clamps and hoses best I could. Also I'm wondering if it's normal when the car is running and you remove the oil cap the engine starts running like it has a vacuum leak.

you may have loosened the extension bolt that passes thu the oil cooler to the block, during a oil filter change.

or the O ring for the oil cooler could be failing.

Ok I'll have to check that out. When I was looking under the car the oil filter was tight. Also where is the I ring for oil cooler

The gasket (not an O ring, can actually use an gasket from a new oil filter, of the right size) is behind the oil cooler assy. Take the extension bolt out. On rare occasion the oil filter can rust out so check that also.

I will check this out but I'm not to sure if that's where it's coming from unless it's spraying out from there. It looks like it's coming from above the oil filter. Everything above it is wet

I meant to say rarely the oil "cooler" can rust out and leak.

Is there anything else I can check that might be the problem? I know it's not the valve cover. It's bone dry in that area.

My dipstick tube got removed from it's "port" and started spewing oil all over the exhaust. Try looking down from up top and giving the dipstick tube a shake. Maybe you'll find that it's loose like mine?
Nevermind just re-read the original post and this clearly isn't the oil filter area. Worth a check anyway?

My TC has an odd condition in which in spews oil out the top of the dipstick tube, when the dipstick is in place with the engine running.

I've checked all the usual suspects (PCV valve, etc.) and don't know what the problem is. I have no other oil leaks, dash gauge shows good pressure (fairly accurate I would surmise).

The odd thing is, I made a plug from a piece of small diameter hose and the rubber bulb from the top of a medicine dropper, pulled out the dipstick and capped off the tube with this plug. Not a drop of oil has ever showed up inside it. Hmpf.

So, at this point I just keep that on there...when I want to check the oil I just uncap the tube, put the dipstick back in, and afterward replace the plug.

Perhaps you have the same condition? I know I was mystified then frustrated then angry when I found oil all over the oil cooler and that area. That's how I fixed it--at least, for now. Perhaps eventually I will look harder at fixing it for good.

Yes I do. It turns out though that I was incorrect; the top part wasn’t a medicine dropper bulb but a small plastic protective cap from some part I purchased over the years, maybe a heater core or something like that. Over the years it was painted black for some reason, but in the photo you can see the original yellow color peeking through in spots. The tube is just a short length of 3/8” ID rubber hose.

I had a similar bad leak from where the dipstick tube meets the block. Aggressive rtv fixed it.

^^^ I also had a leak where the dipstick tube meets the block. Cleaned the area with brake cleaner, aplied a good layer of RTV Ultra Black. Been dry for years now.
